Name and origin

This product retains the nursery name Hoya hypolasia, but the identity of this particular plant has not been botanically confirmed. Kew accepts the species name and records its native range as Papua New Guinea, where it grows as an epiphyte in the wet tropics. That record is not an identification of this plant.

Light and temperature

The following is general Hoya care from the RHS: give bright indirect light, warmth and airflow, away from hot summer sun and cold draughts. Adjust placement to the plant and room rather than relying on an exact lux value or window distance.

Water and potting mix

Use a pot with drainage and a well-aerated, free-draining mix. The RHS suggests orchid bark combined with potting compost and coarse perlite. Check the compost during active growth, water thoroughly and drain off excess. Water less often as growth slows. Avoid both prolonged waterlogging and letting the mix dry out completely; a fixed day interval is unreliable.

Humidity, flowering and handling

Hoyas appreciate some humidity along with airflow. Leave spent flower stalks in place because they may flower again. Avoid skin contact with sap when pruning and wash hands afterwards. Pet safety is unverified for this specific product, so keep pets from chewing it.
