Plerandra elegantissima

The botanical name says it plainly: elegantissima — the most elegant. And Plerandra elegantissima, the False Aralia, earns that superlative in a way few indoor plants can match. Its deeply lobed, dramatically narrow leaves emerge in a rich coppery-red and deepen to an almost-black dark green as they mature — a colour palette so unusual it looks designed rather than grown. Native to New Caledonia, where it grows as a rainforest tree reaching fifteen metres, it brings an unmistakably tropical, architectural presence to any indoor space.
