Dracaena Marginata

Dracaena marginata — the dragon tree. One of the most iconic houseplants in existence, and for good reason: architectural, near-indestructible, and an effective air purifier (confirmed by NASA’s Clean Air Study). The long, narrow leaves with their distinctive red-purple margins radiate from bare, sculptural canes that slowly grow taller over the years, giving mature plants a dramatic, palm-like presence.

Native to Madagascar, marginata is about as forgiving as indoor plants come. Care Guide

• Light: Adapts from low to bright indirect light. Best red-edge colour contrast appears in brighter conditions. Survives (but doesn’t thrive) in low light.
• Watering: Let the soil dry out 50–75% between waterings. Overwatering is the main risk — roots rot easily. Yellow leaves = too much water.
• Humidity: Tolerates low humidity well. Average household humidity (40–50%) is perfectly fine.
• Temperature: 18–30°C (65–86°F). Protect from cold drafts. Avoid below 13°C.
• Soil: Well-draining potting mix with added perlite. Avoid heavy, water-retentive soils.
• Feeding: Balanced fertiliser once a month in spring and summer. Less is more with Dracaena.
• Air Purifying: Proven to filter benzene, formaldehyde, and trichloroethylene from indoor air.
