Name and foliage

We retain the nursery name Syngonium ‘Godzilla’; the exact species or cultivar identity of this plant has not been independently verified. Kew places the Syngonium genus in a range from Mexico to tropical America. The RHS notes that mature Syngonium foliage can differ in shape from juvenile leaves. Genus-level information is not an identification of this plant.

Light and water

Give bright indirect light, warmth and airflow, avoiding prolonged harsh sun and cold draughts. Use a pot with drainage and a loose, free-draining mix. Check the compost during active growth, water thoroughly and drain off excess. Water less as growth slows. A fixed watering interval, window distance or percentage of sunlight is unreliable.

Handling and pets

The ASPCA lists the common Syngonium podophyllum as toxic to cats and dogs; this product has not been identified to species, so that listing is not a diagnosis of this plant. Keep children and pets from chewing the foliage. If ingestion occurs, contact a clinician or veterinarian. Avoid skin contact with sap when pruning and wash hands afterwards.
