Hoya sulawesiana
Named after the Indonesian island where it was first discovered, Hoya sulawesiana is one of those botanical treasures that still surprises even experienced collectors. Its round, waxy leaves are a deep, lustrous green with subtle silvery flecking that catches the light beautifully — understated from a distance, extraordinary up close. And when it blooms? Clusters of perfectly formed pale star flowers with a fragrance that quietly fills a room.
Relatively rare in cultivation compared to mainstream Hoyas, the sulawesiana is a genuinely rewarding find for anyone who appreciates something a little less common. It trails and climbs naturally, looks brilliant in a hanging pot, and is tougher than it looks once it’s settled in.
