Chinese Money Plant
Pilea peperomioides
HK$280.00
Available to order
Few plants have earned their place in the modern home quite like the Chinese Money Plant (Pilea peperomioides). Round, coin-shaped leaves balanced on slender upright stems — it is a design object as much as a plant, equally at home in a minimalist apartment or a chaotic maximalist shelf. You understand the appeal the moment you see one.
What really seals the deal: it propagates itself. The Pilea pushes out little “pups” — offset plantlets at the base — which you can gently separate and pot up as gifts. No wonder it was historically passed hand to hand before the internet gave it celebrity status. Give it light, resist overwatering, and enjoy the show.

Care Guide
- Light: Bright indirect light is ideal. Rotate the pot regularly — it leans dramatically toward the light source.
- Watering: Allow the top 2 cm of soil to dry before watering. Very susceptible to root rot if overwatered.
- Humidity: Adapts well to normal indoor humidity — not as demanding as tropical aroids.
- Temperature: 13–30°C — remarkably adaptable. Avoid frost and cold windowsills.
- Soil: Well-draining, light potting mix with extra perlite.
- Propagation: Let pups reach 5–7 cm before separating. They root easily in water or directly in soil.
