Stock size and room scenes: Styled room images illustrate placement and are not scaled to a measured pot-to-top height of the current stock. Confirm the selected plant’s actual height and form before delivery.
The drama starts before you even look at the leaves. Alocasia ‘Black Stem Variegata’ earns its name from those deep, near-black petioles that hold each leaf like a bold graphic frame — a contrast that makes the arrow-shaped, variegated foliage look more deliberate, more designed. Add splashes of cream and pale green across the leaf surface and you have a plant that commands attention from across the room.

Like all Alocasias, each new leaf is an event. The variegation pattern is unpredictable — part of the appeal — and some leaves emerge with more drama than others. A genuinely architectural plant that suits a statement pot in a bright spot, and one that rewards the care you put into humidity and drainage.
Care Guide
- Light: Bright, indirect light. More light encourages stronger variegation contrast and faster growth.
- Watering: Allow the top 2 cm of soil to dry between waterings. Alocasias are prone to root rot — drainage is critical.
- Humidity: 60–80% ideal. Dry air causes crispy leaf edges — a pebble tray or humidifier helps significantly.
- Temperature: 18–28°C. No cold draughts; protect from temperatures below 15°C.
- Soil: Well-draining aroid mix with generous perlite. Avoid heavy potting soils.
- Dormancy: May drop leaves in cooler months — this is normal. Keep soil slightly drier during dormancy and wait for new growth in spring.
