Platycerium coronarium is one of the most widely distributed staghorn ferns, mainly found in Southeast Asia. It belongs to the large multi-budd staghorn fern, and its clumps can grow more than 2 meters tall.
The leaves of this plant have two different forms. The upper shield leaves are vegetative leaves, in the shape of towering and unfolding, up to 1 meter in length. The apical splitting state of these leaves resembles a crown, hence the name Crown staghorn fern. Compared to other species of staghorn ferns, the vegetative leaves of this plant retain their verdant color throughout the year and do not turn brown.
The lower banded leaves are called sporophylls, shaped like drooping antlers and can reach up to 3 meters in length. When cultivating this plant, there needs to be enough space to accommodate their lush sporophyllous leaves.
Platycerium coronarium is an ornamental and unique plant with a combination of shield and staghorn leaves that create a striking visual effect. It is often planted in gardens, parks, or indoors as an ornamental plant, adding greenery and charm to the environment.
