Philodendron patriciae

Few collector Philodendrons generate the same reverent response as Philodendron patriciae. The leaves are extraordinary: long, almost strap-like, with deeply undulating margins that ripple and wave the full length of each blade — as if the plant is permanently mid-breath. In good conditions they reach impressive proportions, and each new leaf unfurling is genuinely exciting to watch. No photograph quite captures what it looks like in person.

Native to the rainforests of Colombia, patriciae is a slow and deliberate grower that rewards patience with increasingly spectacular foliage. It has developed a devoted collector following precisely because specimens of real size are so rarely available. Give it space, warmth, humidity, and a moss pole to climb — and then simply let it become what it is meant to be.

Care Guide

• Light: Bright to medium indirect light. A spot near a bright window without direct sun is ideal.
• Watering: Water when the top inch of soil is dry. Never allow to sit in water — root rot is the primary risk.
• Humidity: 70%+ strongly preferred. A dedicated humidifier makes a genuine difference with this one.
• Temperature: 18–27°C. Consistent warmth — avoid temperature swings and cold draughts.
• Soil: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix: bark, perlite, and a little potting soil.
• Support: A moss pole encourages upward growth and larger, more dramatic leaf development.
