Hoya compacta — also known as the “Hindu rope plant,” compacta is one of those plants that makes visitors do a double-take. The leaves are thick, waxy, and tightly curled inward on themselves, giving the vines a rope-like, almost sculptural quality that looks deliberately designed. It isn’t — that’s just how it grows.
A cultivar of Hoya carnosa, compacta shares its parent’s toughness and generous flowering: clusters of pink star-shaped blooms with a honey-sweet fragrance that fills a room. What sets it apart is its extraordinary leaf form — those contorted, cupped leaves create a visual texture unlike anything else in the indoor plant world. Slow but deeply rewarding, and almost impossible to kill if you respect its one firm rule: never overwater.

Care Guide
- Light: Bright indirect to moderate light. More light encourages flowering. Avoid dark corners — growth will slow to almost nothing.
- Watering: Let dry out completely between waterings. The curled leaves trap moisture and the plant is more drought-tolerant than it looks. Root rot is the main risk.
- Humidity: Adaptable. Happy at 40–60% — one of the more humidity-tolerant Hoyas.
- Temperature: 15–30°C (60–86°F). Tolerates cooler conditions better than most tropical Hoyas.
- Soil: Very well-draining — cactus mix with added perlite, or a chunky Hoya mix.
- Flowering: Blooms on old peduncles — never remove them. A root-bound plant in a bright spot flowers most reliably.
- Repotting: Rarely needed — compacta actually flowers best when slightly pot-bound.

Flat HK$250 delivery across Hong Kong, free on orders over HK$1,800; remote areas may incur an extra charge. You can also collect free of charge at the Causeway Bay showroom.
